The dry tea leaves are tightly curled with a dark, moist luster. Upon closer inspection, they emit a fragrant, dark brown, oily sheen with a noticeable roasted aroma.

The tea broth is smooth and sweetly refreshing upon entry, with a distinct rock rhyme, ample returning sweetness, bright orange-yellow color, and a mellow, sweetly refreshing taste.

The leaf base is soft, bright, and uniform, with distinct red edges or cinnabar-colored leaves. The tea is durable for multiple infusions, and its fragrance lingers.

The "simmering" of Da Hong Pao involves using charcoal fire for low-temperature, prolonged roasting, adjusting the fragrance and flavor through heat to achieve a matured aroma, enhance the color of the tea liquor, and improve its fragrance and taste. Then, patiently wait for it to lose its fiery edge, until it becomes "vibrantly sweet and refreshingly aromatic," undergoing a rebirth akin to a phoenix rising from the ashes.
